Anne Lucero to Sign Book about Trujillo Creek
Trinidad, ColoradoAnne Lucero will sign her book Trujillo
Creek in Early Days at the Trinidad History Museum Bookstore on Saturday,
September 10, from 11:00 am-1:00 pm. The store is located at 312 E. Main
Street.
Luceros great-grandfathers antique books, in which he recorded
family history, inspired her to learn more about her family and life during
pioneer days. She consulted historical documents to help piece together
the stories of the men and women who had settled in the shadow of the Spanish
Peaks.
The favorite part of her research, however, was fireside chats with elderly
residents during the winter. Dim eyes glowed and twinkled as my senior
friends and relatives relived days of another era. Their memories sharpened,
and like pages of my great-grandfathers leather bound books, the past
became alive again, she writes in the book.
Lucero first published Trujillo Creek in Early Days in 1976
and had it reprinted in 1984. After it had been out of print for several
years, she printed a third edition this summer in conjunction with the Vigil
family reunion. The Vigil family presented Lucero with an award because
her research had rekindled so much interest in their own familys history.
The Trinidad Historical Society has presented Lucero with the Centennial
Citizen Award and the Colorado Historical Society has designated her property
in Trujillo Creek as a Centennial Farm.
Lucero previously taught in schools in Las Animas County and Pueblo and
had a business, Evergreen, making natural flower arrangements. She and
her husband Lucas have one son, Gordon, and two grandchildren.
