Santa Fe Trail Mountain Branch To Sponsor Premiere of Santa Fe Trail Rocky Mountain PBS special at Koshare Indian Kiva

Santa Fe Trail Scenic and Historic Byway will host a sneak preview of the Santa Fe Trail episode of "America's Byways." Everyone is invited to attend the sneak preview at the Koshare Indian Kiva on Friday September 12, 7 PM. The program focuses on the general history of the byway and specifically details: 1) Amache 2) Bent's Old Fort 3) Comanche National Grassland 4) Picketwire Canyonlands Dinosaur Tracks and 5) Raton Pass. A map to the Koshare Kiva, La Junta, CO, can be found on the Santa Fe Trail Mountain Branch Scenic Byway web site at http://www.santafetrailscenicandhistoricbyway.org along with information about areas highlighted in the half hour documentary.

Co-Sponsors of the sneak preview are Bent's Fort Chapter of the Santa Fe Trail Association, Boggsville, Koshare Indian Museum, Otero Junior College, Comanche National Grasslands, Rocky Mountain PBS and Great Divide Pictures.

The sneak preview is being held in conjunction with Early Settler's Days in La Junta, CO. Saturday, September 13 and the festival will include activities that reflect the Trail Days era. The event begins with breakfast served by the Kiwanis, followed by a parade, and plenty of entertainment and shopping for everyone throughout the day.

The half-hour documentary on the Santa Fe Trail Scenic and Historic Byway will air on Wednesday, September 17, 7 PM, on Rocky Mountain PBS/KTSC-TV. Other "America's Byways" specials which highlight Colorado will air as follows:

Sunday 9/28- 5:30pm "America's Byways, Santa Fe Trail", 9:30pm "Rocky Mountain Legacy, La Cultura De San Luis"

"America's Byways, Santa Fe Trail" is a co-production of Rocky Mountain PBS and Great Divide Pictures, in association with CDOT Scenic and Historic Byways program. Major funding was from the Colorado Historical Society State Historical Fund, with additional support from the USDA Forest Service, Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands, and the members of Rocky Mountain PBS. The project includes a web site, teacher's guide and home videos. Teacher's guides were mailed to all elementary and middle schools in time for the premiere broadcasts.
